Dealing With Emergencies in the USA
Throughout the United States,
including urban and most rural areas, the telephone number for emergency service is 9-1-1.
This covers all emergencies, including police, fire, medical and accidental
incidents. It may be necessary to dial '0' for the operator in some rural areas
that are not directly serviced by 9-1-1.
Those needing medical transport
are responsible for the cost of the ambulance as well as any treatment received.
Travelers should ensure that they have adequate travel insurance to cover these
expenses.
Non-emergency police telephone
numbers can be found in the phone book.
In the event that a passport
is either lost or stolen, contact the nearest consulate for the country of issue.
In most cases, a temporary passport will be issued. |
